About Alan Forshee Photography
Hello, I’m Alan Forshee. I grew up in St. Louis, spent time in California, and traveled the world during my service with the United States Navy. My passion is photography, and I cherish the chance to witness and capture nature at its finest. Whether it’s early in the morning as the sun rises in brilliance to bring life to a new day or late in the evening as it sets in glory to mark the day’s end, these moments are unforgettable. The sights, smells, and sounds of nature feel like music to my soul.
I explore many genres of photography, but my greatest love is for nature and landscape photography. If I had to choose a specialty, it would be photographing and learning about Bald Eagles. Missouri is home to many year-round, providing endless opportunities to observe and capture their majesty. Alongside nature photography, I also enjoy portraiture, particularly environmental portraits, where I can blend my landscape skills with artistic lighting techniques inspired by photographers like Chris Knight and Felix Kunze.
My photography journey began in the early 1980s with the Minolta X700, a groundbreaking camera of its time and the first to feature TTL flash functionality. Over the years, I’ve used cameras from Olympus, Canon, and Sony, but in 2014, I settled on Nikon and haven’t looked back. For me, Nikon’s consistency, stability, and functionality make it feel like home. That said, I firmly believe that great images can be created with any major camera system, as evidenced by the incredible work of my fellow photographers.
